Adopting Confidence

2 Timothy 1:7   “For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind”   We all know a confiden t person. There’s something about them: it could be the way they walk, the way they talk , their demeanour , however, these are all by-products of the root to their confidence: reassurance. The most consistent thing seen in all confident people is reassurance about themselves . They trust in who they say they are, and they associate reliability with themselves. By definition, “confidence is the feeling or belief or trust a person or thing is reliable ” . Whether the confident person you know is someone external or even y oursel f , I think we can all be a little more confident.   When we try to link the idea of confidence and this verse, we see there’s a similarity. We are shown that the characteristics of God’s spirit doesn’t display “fear ” , but one of “power” and “love ” , yet how many times have we been fearful? Fearful about p...

Rejecting the idea of Reciprocation

1 John 4:19   “We love because H e first loved us”   I used to be the type of person that only g ave people what I received. I f someone showed me a lot of love and affection, I would give the same back. Equally, if someone didn’t show me a lot of love and affection, I would give the same back. Do you see how that can become problematic? I placed conditions on the amount of love I showed to people .    We live in a world where this behaviour seems normal, in some regards logical, but that’s exactly what it is: worldly. Worldly love isn’t associated with Godly love. Worldly love is selfish whereas Godly love is selfless : not prideful or self- associated but fixated on what you can give rather than receive. We are told in scriptures that love is patient, kind , hopeful and never-ending (1 Corinthians 13:4-8) but when we adopt the idea of r ecipro cation, it’s impossible to fulfil these traits.    Imagine if God decided to treat us the way we trea...

The significance of words

Words are the very core of our existence. We use them to communicate with people and we implement them to have a rationale of all the things around us. Without words, there would be no such thing as life, ironically, we wouldn’t even be able to name i t. It’s clear words are significant, but today I want to summarise into 3 main points as to why:   1. Words show God’s kindness     Words in it’s essence reveals things. Through words, we give definitions to objects, through w ords we name people and through words we get to find out about people’s lives. Our biggest revelation is the character of God. The Bible contains 66 books full of words that show us the nature of God. Why words? God created the heavens and the earth through H is voice ( Genisis 1:3 ) Any other means could have been implemented but He used the very thing we us e most in our lives, so that we may have certainty and confidence in His own word. So, whatever God has said about you, trust that ...
