Vulnerability isn’t weakness

James 5:16   “ Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective”   One lie that culture tries to embed within our behaviours is keeping things to ourselves. For years, I adopted the belief th at my problems weren’t worth listening to or that people wouldn’t care about what I had to say. A simple question of “how are you?” became an automated response of “I’m fine” or “Good” with a fabricated smile . I found my strength in my ability to repress my emotions. But that isn’t true strength . Authentic strength is rooted in humility: acknowledging your weakness so that you may embrace Christ’s strength for you (2 Corinthians 12:9) We create barriers and cages to not let people into our lives, but all we are really doing is caging ourselves: caging ourselves from the truth that we need help.   If we look closely into the verse, we are called for community. Throughout...

Love through God not Money

Ecclesiastes 5:10   “Whoever loves money never has enough; whoever loves wealth is never satisfied with their income. This too is meaningless.”   Have you ever heard of the phrase “Money makes the world go round”? It seems this isn’t merely a phrase but a reality that we live in: now more than ever. We take jo bs that we hate, mistreat people and push our bodies to the limit, all for that one word: Money . W e let this word dictate our decisions, we let it dictate our mood, and most importantly, we let it dictate our faith in God. This isn’t me s aying that Money is inherently evil, but t he love of Money can become problematic and there are three things in particular:     The amount you have doesn’t change the character of God     How many times have we let the lack of money influence our ability to trust God? I’ve been there. Times where I ha ve had money was when I showed most gratitude to God, but times where I didn’t , I treated God like an out...

Finding Rest in God

Matthew 11: 28   “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest”   We live in a busy world, with busy people, with busy schedules. Everything is moving constantly, and sometimes we forget to take a break. We’ve developed such a pro ductive mindset that anything outside of working is called ‘lazy ’. This isn’t me encouraging you to spend hours on social media and not feel guilt y , or watch that 3-hour movie, or even play that video game for 10 hours straight. All those thing s aren’t rest; true rest is dwelling in God’s presence.    If we are truly made in the image of God, then we are to follow the example that He has set us. If we go all the way back to Genisis, we are introduced to the idea of rest. God rested on the 7 th day of H is creation. But why? Why would a God that is all powerful and never sleeping need rest? I don’t think God needed rest, but rather to show us an example of the very thing He  requires us to do. ...
